Accessibility
Everyone should be able to plan and book a day on the bay. This statement covers how this website is built and how to reach us if something gets in your way, online or at the dock.
What standard do we follow?
We build and test this website against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, the standard most widely used for websites in the United States.
What have we done?
- Text you can read. Body text is dark ink on white, and every color pairing meets the AA contrast ratio. Our red is used for buttons with white text and for large headings, never for small text.
- Everything works from a keyboard. Every link, button and question opens with the keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline. A “Skip to content” link is the first thing on every page.
- Zoom and resize. Pinch-zoom is never blocked, and pages reflow to fit narrow phone screens without sideways scrolling.
- Images with descriptions. Photos carry text alternatives that say what they show. Purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Motion you control. If your device asks for reduced motion, the scroll animations and counters stay still and the background video does not play. The video has no sound and carries no information you cannot read on the page.
- Clear structure. Each page has one main heading, headings in order, labelled regions, and links that describe where they go.
- Plain controls. The questions on the FAQ page are native disclosure controls, so assistive technology already knows how they work. The phone number is a link you can tap to call.
How do we keep it that way?
Every change to this website runs through automated accessibility checks before it goes live, alongside checks for broken links and missing image descriptions. New pages are checked with a keyboard alone, at phone and desktop sizes, before we publish them. When someone tells us about a barrier, we fix the page rather than work around it, and we check the rest of the site for the same problem.
Where are the known limits?
- Booking. Checkout runs on Peek, a third-party booking system we do not control. If any part of it blocks you, call (562) 598-2628 and we will help you complete your booking.
- The map. The map on the contact page comes from Google Maps. Our address and where to find us are also written out as text on the same page.
- Tide predictions. The tide table comes from NOAA. It is presented as a table with row and column headers, with a plain-English explanation alongside it.
Can you help at the dock?
If you or someone in your group uses a mobility aid or has a disability, call (562) 598-2628 before you book. We will talk through boarding, the dock and the boat, so you know what to expect and can plan the day that works for you.
How do you report a problem?
Call (562) 598-2628 and tell us the page, what you were trying to do and what got in the way. If you can, mention the device, browser and any assistive technology you were using; it helps us find the problem faster. We read every report, and we will help you complete what you came to do in the meantime.
What about the rest of the site?
The FAQ, the rules and packing list and the contact page cover most of what people need before a trip, and every one of them is plain text that reads well with a screen reader.
